Markets to explore
Markets are a terrific way to experience the true taste of Sussex.
Farmers' Markets
Browse locally made produce and seasonal Sussex fruit and vegetables as well as locally reared meat, Sussex gin, craft beer, plants, preserves, cheese and much more. Regular farmers markets take place in Chichester, Midhurst and Petworth, where you can purchase some of the area's fare. All products on sale at the markets have been grown/made/produced within a 40 mile radius. Find dates for the farmers' markets below. If your visit doesn't coincide with one of the dates, there's a host of Farm Shops to investigate too.
Pop-up markets appear a few times a year in Chichester, with a variety of local designers and makers featured at The Cross Market & More, where you can peruse handmade food, textiles and jewellery, prints, and other craft items. You'll also meet the 'traders of tomorrow' where entrepreneurial local students have an opportunity to showcase their products. Petworth Pop is definitely worth a visit when it appears, featuring up and coming small businesses and makers selling fashion and skincare, ceramics and art, and candles, amongst other covetable items.
Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without Christmas markets to peruse. You'll find them in various locations in and around Chichester, including Goodwood Racecourse and Chichester city centre for various dates during December. The city's Christmas market often includes late night shopping as well as family entertainment and a children's trail. New for 2022 is the Christmas Village including a festive market at Selsey's Seal Bay Resort plus there are Christmas markets and festivities on selected days in Petworth and Midhurst where the spirit of the season comes to life accompanied by live entertainment. Enthusiasts of home decor will love the regular 'Fair in the Square' in Midhurst's town square; a veritable feast of brocante and vintage homewares from a selection of traders.
